BrightonOne FAQs

What is BrightonOne?

BrightonOne is a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to improving outcomes for veterans, military-connected families, and the communities they call home.

Building on more than four decades of service, BrightonOne brings together healthcare, housing, and wraparound services under a unified mission: helping individuals and families achieve greater health, stability, and opportunity.

Why did Brighton Marine become BrightonOne?

The name BrightonOne reflects the organization’s growth and the interconnected nature of its work.

While Brighton Marine remains the foundation of the organization’s history and mission, BrightonOne better represents the breadth of services and partnerships that now extend across healthcare, housing, community wellbeing, and social support.

The new name reflects a simple idea: lasting outcomes are achieved when people have access to coordinated solutions, not isolated programs.

Is BrightonOne still committed to veterans and military-connected families?

Yes.

Veterans and military-connected families remain at the center of BrightonOne’s mission and always will.

Every program, partnership, and investment is guided by a commitment to supporting those who serve, have served, and the families who serve alongside them.

What financial assistance is available?

We offer grants, emergency assistance, and financial counseling to help veterans navigate hardship. No one should struggle alone, and we're here to help when unexpected costs arise.

What does it mean that BrightonOne is a nonprofit social enterprise?

A nonprofit social enterprise uses business operations to advance a mission.

Unlike a traditional nonprofit that relies primarily on donations, BrightonOne generates revenue through mission-aligned services and reinvests its operating margin into programs, infrastructure, and services that strengthen outcomes for veterans, military-connected families, and the communities they call home.

This model allows BrightonOne to create sustainable impact while maintaining the discipline, accountability, and long-term focus of a high-performing enterprise.

Who does BrightonOne serve?

  • Eligible Veterans
  • Active-duty service members
  • Eligible National Guard and Reserve members

Many programs and partnerships also benefit the broader communities in which these individuals and families live.

Is BrightonOne part of the Department of Veterans Affairs?

The program provides comprehensive healthcare coverage through a network of primary care providers, specialists, hospitals, and community partners.

Why does BrightonOne focus on healthcare, housing, and wraparound services together?

Health is influenced by more than medical care alone.

Stable housing, economic security, social support, and access to community resources all play an important role in individual and family wellbeing.

BrightonOne’s approach recognizes these connections and seeks to address the factors that shape long-term outcomes, not just immediate needs.

Does BrightonOne only serve veterans?

Veterans and military-connected families remain at the center of BrightonOne’s mission.

At the same time, BrightonOne recognizes that strong communities contribute to better outcomes for everyone, including those who have served. For more than four decades, the organization has been part of the Allston-Brighton community and has worked alongside public officials, nonprofit organizations, and community partners to address shared challenges and opportunities.

As a nonprofit social enterprise, BrightonOne invests not only in services for veterans and military-connected families, but also in initiatives that strengthen the neighborhoods where they live. This includes partnerships focused on housing stability, community wellbeing, and support for vulnerable populations, including older adults and families in need.

We believe supporting those who serve and strengthening the communities they call home are complementary goals.

How does BrightonOne support the local community?

BrightonOne has proudly called Allston-Brighton home for more than four decades.

As a nonprofit social enterprise, BrightonOne works alongside local leaders, community organizations, and public partners to strengthen the neighborhoods where veterans and military-connected families live and work.

This commitment includes investments in housing, community wellbeing, neighborhood partnerships, and initiatives that address local needs. By supporting the broader community, BrightonOne helps create stronger foundations for the individuals and families it serves.

How is BrightonOne funded?

BrightonOne’s work is supported through a combination of:

  • Healthcare operations
  • Mission-related business activities
  • Grants
  • Philanthropic support
  • Strategic partnerships
  • Other mission-aligned revenue sources

As a nonprofit organization, BrightonOne reinvests its operating margin into programs, services, infrastructure, and initiatives that advance its mission.

Does BrightonOne accept donations?

Yes.

Donations help support programs and services that may not be funded through healthcare operations or other revenue sources.

Contributions help expand housing opportunities, strengthen family stability, address urgent needs, and support innovative solutions that improve outcomes for veterans and military-connected families.

What makes BrightonOne different?

BrightonOne combines the mission of a nonprofit with the discipline of an enterprise.

By bringing together healthcare, housing, and wraparound services, BrightonOne works to address the interconnected challenges that affect veterans, military-connected families, and communities.

The organization believes lasting outcomes require more than individual programs. They require coordinated solutions, strong partnerships, and a long-term commitment to helping people thrive.

What is the relationship between BrightonOne and EverRise Health?

BrightonOne is the parent nonprofit social enterprise.

EverRise Health is BrightonOne’s healthcare enterprise and administers USFHP of Southern New England, administered by EverRise Health. Together, BrightonOne and EverRise Health advance a shared mission of improving outcomes for veterans, military-connected families, and the communities they call home.

That question alone will likely eliminate a tremendous amount of confusion among beneficiaries, elected officials, media, and community partners during the first year after launch.
